Beyond the Gate is now 45/222 pages revised. Of those 45 pages, I would estimate that a full third of them are brand-spanking new. It isn't easy. The instinct to fix old words is strong. Instead, armed with what should be there and what shouldn't, giving the story new words is way better. There's a whole lot of trebuchet-ing going on!

As many times as I've been over this story, I just love it more and more. That's how I knew it wasn't a "trunk" novel. Some of my old work is just not worth salvaging, no matter what bits and pieces of it I still get the shivers for. This? I love this in its entirety. I've been confident with each revision--confident that it got better each time; but there was always something lingering, something that made me know it wasn't quite ready. That instinct is not kicking in this time. I'm confident. Period. Feels good.

My mutant powers of healing are apparently on the fritz. Or this bug is really putting up a good fight. One day I feel ok, the next I'm not; or I'll feel fine in the morning only to feel like death warmed over by evening. I've done next to nothing but write, attempt the minimum amount of chores, cook dinner, watch tv, rest--still feel kinda crappy. I'm hoping a weekend full of nothing but laying around finishes this bugger off. Yeesh!
